Summer - Fall - January Orientations

  Summer:

Typically a 1 to 3 day event for a college where testing, tours and mingling are ensued. Simplified Entertainment Inc. can assist you in making a Summer Orientation most memorable with an interactive show. Recommendations are: hypnosis shows, comedy magic shows, interactive games shows, comedy jugglers, dances for large groups, make your own craft sessions and any type of photo show.

A note on photo shows: Photo shows are FANTASTIC! Why? Because there is total interactivity with the attendees. They will all keep the photos for the rest of their lives. It is a sure fire way to get a "beginning college photo" to look back at when they graduate.

What we do not recommend: Comedians. Why? The new students have yet to understand the present everyday world social scene. It is our experience that comics fall short. It is best to start a comedy show after a few weeks have passed by after school is in full session.

  Fall:

Typically a 1 to 2 day event. Most of the students have already did their testing prior to arriving for the fall semester. This is a great time for the students because they are now OFFICIALLY out of their parents house, rules and supervision. This is a time where some students get themselves into trouble! A little too much freedom too fast!

Generally, Awareness Speakers are a very good choice. Why? Because it is a time of FREEDOM for the new students and a quality speaker can deliver a message in a fun, entertaining and informative way that the new students will accept. Midday seems to be the best time for speakers for new college students.

Nighttime shows should be kept to no longer than 60-75 minutes. Keep in mind that the students have had a full day and they are most likely to be very tired. (That's why you have speakers during the day!)

If the entertainment is the very last event, then expect persons in your audience to leave. Again, the students are tired. To avoid this, our top recommendation is a hypnosis show. Of all the events that we produce for orientations, a hypnosis performance is always the most successful.

Dances are great if the entire student body is welcome. This gives the new students a chance to mingle with the upperclassmen. If possible, try to get the football team to attend. Make the football team a part of the dance. The football players are home town celebrities, so you might as well use them to your advantage.

Late night "food" gatherings are fun. Add a few novelty events such as Old Time Photos or Gel Air Fresheners to the mix. Novelty events are wonderful "mixers" and our professional hosts know what to do to make the event more enjoyable by playing some fun interactive games to win prizes.

  Fall: The First 8 Weeks

The importance of the first 8 weeks in a new student college career is of major concern. This is where many new students decide if college is right for them. Many surveys from students who left college during this period sighted a high level of stress as one of the main factors for leaving.

Interactive events are an excellent way to combat stress. Interactive events such as game shows, magicians, musical acts, comedians, hypnotists and inflatable events, to name a few, encourage students to mingle with their friends and other students. Students who are "pulled out of their shell" and placed in safe "comfort zones" tend to do far better than those who hide in their rooms. The first 8 weeks is an important time for new students to attend speakers, movies and late night events on the weekends, that help them cope, learn and be better students and community partners.

  January Orientations

January Orientations are usually much smaller than summer or fall orientations. Incoming January students are typically older adult students, transfers from other colleges and a few late starter freshman. Most of the time, we have found that the college will have events labeled for these new comers with encouragement for the entire student body to attend. "Nooner" type events seem to go over best for these new comers.
